Breaker defect caused GH power cut: TNEB

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI DEC. 14 . The TNEB has said the power cut in the Government General Hospital on Monday was caused by a breakdown in the hospital, which was under maintenance of the PWD. The 11 kv supply to the hospital was not interrupted, a TNEB release said.

During the demolition of the old building, the PWD had removed one point of supply and now, only one feeder was available. Moreover, the PWD Assistant Engineer bypassed the breaker inside due to a defect in it. Hence, whenever a fault occurs inside, the TNEB breaker trips, the board said reacting to reports of power failure in the hospital. The alternate supply point too was removed during the demolition and there was no possibility of providing an alternative.

The TNEB has asked the Dean to rectify the defect in the 11-kv breaker on the premises and put the same back in service.
