Musharraf's pat for armed forces

By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD Dec. 16. The Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, has claimed that during the recent escalation of tension along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), the Indian attempts to coerce Pakistan were thwarted by the resolve, professional competence and working faith of Pakistan's defence forces.

Presiding over a meeting of the Core Commanders at the military headquarters in Rawalpindi today, Gen. Musharraf reiterated Pakistan's position that all disputes including Kashmir should be resolved through "meaningful talks'' between New Delhi and Islamabad.

Gen. Musharraf told the commanders that the Pakistani armed forces had proved once again that they were "superb and fully capable" to defend the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The President, who is also the Chief of the Army Staff, reviewed the process of de-escalation and appreciated the "efficiency" of the armed forces in accomplishing this task smoothly.
