Needed: unity

Sir, — No country takes India seriously. The U.S. does not care for India and sides with Pakistan in its so-called fight against terrorism, even though it came close to declaring Pakistan a terror state. Malaysia does not help India in getting Ottavio Quattrocchi extradited. Portugal did the same in another issue. Now, by releasing Anees Ibrahim, the United Arab Emirates has shown that India is no force to reckon with. If India is not united, no country will take it seriously. It is time the BJP Government started fighting terrorism on its own.

Sangu Narayanan,
Canada

Sir, — When any country seems to be in league with wanted terrorists or criminals, it spreads out the red carpet in spite of red corner alerts — these are signs of spiting the nation that seeks extradition. What is the use of having diplomatic relations with them when there is no reciprocal respect or even concern for international norms? Should we not discontinue or downgrade the ties with them for the sake of self-respect?

Raghubir Singh,
Pune
