Bad tidings

Sir, — The utterances of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader, Praveen Togadia, indicate bad times for the country. He threatens that all those who oppose Hindutva will be met with ``death sentence'' It means that all those who disagree with the VHP's hate campaign will be eliminated in the same way as the minorities in Gujarat were. Recently, Ashok Singhal declared three national English language newspapers as traitors. Mr. Togadia speaks as if he is the authorised representative of Hindus. There is no place for hatred and animosity in Hindu dharma. The Bhagavad Gita says, ``adveshtaa sarvabhootaanaam.....'', that is no hatred towards any living being. Perhaps it is time the VHP is referred to as Vishwa Himsa Parishad.

K.Venkata Rao,
Secunderabad
