Bank robbery in J&K

By Our Staff Reporter

JAMMU DEC. 19. In a daring daylight robbery today, an armed assailant fired at the guard of the J&K Bank branch at Lakhdatta bazaar in the heart of the city and escaped with Rs. 2.61 lakhs.

An eyewitness told The Hindu that at about 1.55 p.m., the assailant, wearing a monkey cap and carrying a pistol, shot at the guard, Sita Ram, and forced his way into the bank. He later escaped.

Ruling out the hand of any militant outfit in the robbery, police said it was the handiwork of a professional criminal gang.
