"The External Affairs Minister, Yashwant Sinha, has already briefed the Prime Minister about his talks with the Indonesian Foreign Minister, Hassan Wirayuda. If Mr. Jain and his colleague are not released by today evening, the Prime Minister will intervene and talk to President Megawati," Mr. Mahajan said here. Asked what New Delhi was expecting from Jakarta, he said: "They have to be released. That is the response we want from them". Mr. Jain and the Polaris senior vice-president, Rajiv Malhotra, were detained in Jakarta on charges of alleged deception and fraud over an agreement with Bank Artha Graha.
Concern over Jain's health
In Chennai, the Polaris Software Labs said today that Mr. Jain had "become weak" and may require medical attention. "The legal counsels of Polaris, who have been able to maintain tenuous contact with Mr. Jain and Mr. Malhotra at the detention centre, have expressed concern for their well-being," a Polaris press release said here. Reports from Jakarta suggest that though Mr. Jain and Mr. Malhotra maintained outward appearance of good health, one week of being in a police detention centre had taken its toll. PTI
