Wrestling: Mukesh Khaitri claims gold in style

HYDERABAD DEC. 20. World cadet champion, Mukesh Khaitri, representing Andhra Pradesh, clinched the gold in the men's 55-kg Greco-Roman category of the 32nd National Games wrestling event, held at the Saroornagar Indoor Stadium here today.

Mukesh floored Haryana's Rajesh 10-0 on points to the delight of the crowd which could not witness any action due to the `dharna' staged by the host against the Wrestling Federation of India for the last minute directive that no wrestler from other States can represent the host. However, senior Indian Olympic Association officials intervened this morning and resolved the issue to the satisfaction of everyone.

In the 66-kg bout, Gurbinder Singh of Punjab earned a 4-1 verdict against Ravinder Patil of Andhra Pradesh to pick the gold.

The results (all finals):

Men: Greco-Roman: 55-kg: Mukesh Khaitri (AP) bt Rajesh (Har) 10-0;

61-kg: Kripa Shankar (AP) bt Sandeep Dahiya (Dli) 3-1.

66-kg: Gurbinder Singh (Pun) bt Ravinder Patil (AP) 4-1.

Freestyle: 66-kg: Jai Bhagawan (Har) bt Niranjan Singh (Chd) 6-3.
