HYDERABAD Dec. 21. Punjab's Manavjit Singh who took the gold in the men's trap event made it a memorable National Games outing recording a fine double winning the Skeet event and topping the National Games record in the process. Manavjit thrilled the small crowd watching the event with some brilliant shooting bagging 24 `kills' of a possible 25 in the final round.

The youngster making his debut in the National Games had a score of 120 in the qualifying round and led Naveen Jindal of Rajasthan by three points. Naveen Jindal too eclipsed the previous National Games record (137) set by H.S Bedi in Bangalore in 1997.

The skeet event is thrilling sight to watch. The shooters unlike in the Trap event do not have their double barrels in the ready- to- fire position. They have to take their aim only after the targets are released. Shooters have to hit the birds to collect points and the entire sequence makes for an enthralling display. Manavjit drew repeated applause for his telling accuracy.

Participating in the 50 metre Free Pistol event Samaresh had a five point lead going into the final round and was almost assured of a gold after the first round of five shots.
