Letters to the Editor
Sir, The reason advanced by the Bar Council not to call off the lawyers' strike consequent to the Supreme Court judgment is far from convincing. The boycott of courts to register their protest against the amendment to the Legal Services Authorities Act was laudable, but after subjecting itself to the apex court's ruing that the strike was illegal, the council ought to have reviewed the call, to uphold the rule of law and the majesty of the court. P.K. Ibrahim, Kochi Sir, It is unfortunate that lawyers who are considered to be the ambassadors of law are out on the streets protesting, despite the Supreme Court ruling that the strike was illegal. If lawyers and officials are against the Supreme Court, then what faith would a common man have in the court's verdict? Indrajit Bose, Cuttack Sir, Lawyers not heeding the Supreme Court's ban on their strike is the height of contempt. If lawyers disobey the apex court's ruling, they cannot expect their clients to obey the court verdicts. Lawyers should lead by example. After all, an exemplar is better than a preceptor. K. Pradeep, Chennai
