Detenus being denied justice, says Hurriyat

Srinagar Dec 24. The Hurriyat Conference today alleged that police in Jammu and Kashmir was not producing detenus before the courts on the pretext of lack of security and urged international human rights bodies and the Red Cross to take ``urgent steps'' in this regard.

``Detenus who are languishing in jails for several years are denied justice as police authorities, on the pretext of lack of security and absence of guards, deliberately fail to present them before the courts, thus denying an opportunity to detenus to get released,'' the separatist amalgam said in a statement here.

``Absence of security is in fact a well thought out and deliberate conspiracy to create hurdles in the release of detenus, especially those belonging to Budgam and Srinagar districts,'' the statement added.

The Hurriyat appealed to human rights bodies and the International Committee of the Red Cross to take urgent steps to remove the hurdles in the way of administering justice to the detenus.
