`Ugly terror'

Sir, — Your Editorial, `Ugly Terror' (Dec. 24), suggests that the escalation of terrorist activity in Jammu and Kashmir must only "reinforce" the State Government's resolve to go ahead with its peace initiative. The Government must not be and must not appear to be re-chanting the peace mantra out of fear of the terrorists or helplessness. It must be shown on the ground that the Government is tough in dealing with terrorism. Otherwise, the so-called soft line may result in a catastrophe not just for the State Government, but for the whole nation.

Avuthu Srihari,

Secunderabad, A.P.
