The Additional police commissioner, P. C. Thakur, said tension gripped Panjarigar area when rival groups indulged clashes forcing police to open fire in the air.

"The situation in both the areas was under control and peaceful," he said. One person was stabbed to death and two others were injured last night in Navapura area and 22 persons were arrested in this connection.

Both the injured were stated to be out of danger, police said. Two vehicles were also set ablaze in the last night's incident.
