Breaking his silence over the "farce" enacted by the Dubai authorities in reportedly releasing Anees, one of the main accused in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case, Mr. Sharma told PTI that the agency would "continue pressing for his deportation or extradition". "We have not received any information from the Dubai authorities so far and we presume that he (Anees) is still in their custody," Mr. Sharma, who came under severe media attack recently, said. The CBI Director was defending his agency's stand to send the extradition request despite reports that the Dubai authorities had given bail to Anees and later deported him to Pakistan. "So far we have received only one communication from the Interpol Abu Dhabi that states that an Indian national identified as Anees Ibrahim has been detained. Hence, the CBI may forward an extradition request for the same,'' he said and added that this communication put an end to media reports that Anees was arrested by the Dubai police on some murder charges. "Our officer had been told by the Dubai police that Anees was detained because of a Red Corner notice," he said. PTI
