Letters to the Editor
Sir, Neena Vyas' article and Surendra's fitting cartoon, `The saffron tide rises' (Dec. 22), echo the fears of the secular-minded citizens and minorities. The Prime Minister has unjustifiably reprimanded the Indian Muslims for not criticising enough the Godhra carnage. What Narendra Modi and L.K. Advani did before the Assembly elections, the Prime Minister has chosen to do after the elections. Mr. Vajpayee perhaps feels obliged to take off his secular mask now and then to please his friends in Hindutva. He will dust the mask and wear it again. While the Godhra carnage was the handiwork of a handful of terrorists, the Gujarat massacre that followed was state-sponsored hooliganism, directed against thousands of innocent citizens. Fundamentalists, extremists and terrorists are spread all over the globe. They are there in all religions. Though the Hindutva lovers rejoice in labelling Indian Muslims pro-Pakistan, every sane citizen knows this is not true. A.A.H.K. Ghori,
Chennai
