Letters to the Editor
Sir, I am writing this to express my deep appreciation for your Editorial, `The death sentence' (Dec. 20). In such a short write-up, you have been able to produce compelling arguments and research findings to change my mind about the propriety of the death sentence. By focusing on the infirmities of the legal process, rather than on sheer sentimentalism or narrow considerations such as the availability of a confession, you have indeed put together a very strong case against death sentence. You have taken the courage to go beyond both popular opinion and populist logic. Piyush Mathur, Virginia, U.S.
