By Our Special Correspondent
The next of kin of those who died were given financial assistance during the ceremony. In all, 21 next of kin, including war widows, from the four southern States and one from Bihar, were given the financial assistance by N.P.Aul, Colonel Commandant, Madras Sappers. The Army Headquarters had released Rs. 7 lakh for the purpose. Additionally, Rs. 1 lakh was presented to one soldier who was disabled in a mine blast during Operation Rakshak. Such events are organised periodically at the MEG and Centre, Bangalore, for giving financial assistance to families of those killed or disabled in action. The Indian Army has taken several welfare measures to rehabilitate the widows and other next of kin of soldiers who have taken part in operations since Independence.
