A fine gesture

Sir, — It was very nice on the part of the President, Abdul Kalam, to have personally called on the great musician, M.S. Subbulakshmi (Dec. 18), and presented her the citation and award from the Madras Music Academy as she was unable to attend the felicitation function due to ill-health. His action makes every Indian proud, he being the personification of the secular ethos of our motherland.
