By Our Staff Correspondent

PATNA Dec. 27. The Ranchi based photo-journalist of Hindustan Times, Ashok Karn, was kidnapped from his ancestral home at Bela village, under Islampur police station of Nalanda district, on Thursday night. A six-member armed gang, which took him and his wife, Madhu Karn, from their home, released the latter and asked her to arrange payment of Rs. 10 lakhs for the safe return of her husband. Mrs. Karn, who called on the Chief Minister, Rabri Devi, and the RJD president, Laloo Prasad Yadav, denied that a land dispute was the reason for the abduction.

The Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, Sushma Swaraj, also had a talk with Mr. Yadav. In Ranchi, the issue was raised in the Jharkhand Assembly and media persons gheraoed the Chief Minister, Babu Lal Marandi.
