PATNA Dec. 28. After being in captivity for 36 hours, the Ranchi-based news photographer of The Hindustan Times, Ashok Karn, was released unhurt by his abductors, under pressure from the police, in Jaitipur village of Nalanda district this evening.

Mr. Karn was kidnapped on Thursday last and the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs.10 lakhs. The police have since arrested four persons in this connection.

Later, journalists called on the Chief Minister, Rabri Devi, and the RJD president, Laloo Prasad Yadav, and thanked the administration for the ``swift action''.
