Ibobi's resignation demanded

IMPHAL DEC. 29. The Manipur Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi, is in an unenviable position since a ruling coalition partner has demanded his resignation, alleging that some policemen have started killing innocent youths in "fake encounters".

A t a press conference on Saturday, P. Premananda, president, youth front of the Democratic People's Party (DPP), also demanded the resignation of the Minister of State for School Education, Maniruddin Sheikh, who is accused of corruption.

A banned underground organisation, the KYKL, had abducted five officials of the Directorate of Education (Schools) for taking bribes. It had ``awarded'' death penalty to them.

However, it is seeking people's reaction till December 30. Maniruddin Sheikh was also given death sentence in absentia.The youth front leader said that in quick succession four youths were gunned down in Imphal last week.
