Idols desecrated in two temples

Gaya Dec. 29. Unidentified persons desecrated idols at a temple in Gaya district of Bihar last night sparking off tension in the area today, police said. Some idols, including that of Hanuman, were desecrated at a temple located on Ram Shila hillock, they said.

As the news spread, tension gripped the area and a large number of people led by the BJP MLA, Prem Kumar, blocked the Patna-Gaya road for several hours in the morning demanding arrest of the culprits and replacement of the idols.

A report from Bahraich said tension prevailed in the Dargah Shareif police station area of the district following the desecration of idols in the disputed area of Gullabir temple.

Trouble erupted when nine idols kept in the disputed area were found desecrated, but the administration officials promptly swung into action and performed a special puja after restoring the idols.
