Premier institutes to be handed over to trust

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD Dec. 29. The Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, announced here on Sunday that the management of Madrase Alia and Mehboobia, two of Hyderabad's famed old schools, would be handed over to the educational trust run by the Urdu newspaper, Siasat, and the American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin (AFMI). He also announced a personal contribution of Rs. 50,000 for the "restoration'' of these schools. He was speaking at the valedictory of the two-day AFMI convention.

Earlier, Zahid Ali Khan, editor, Siasat, spoke about the deteriorating standards of these two premier educational institutions where the wards of the Nizam and the elite used to study. Today the schools are in a shambles and the pass percentage of its students stands at an abysmal five to 10 per cent, he said and promised to bring these schools "back to their former glory'' if allowed to run them.

Speaking on the occasion, Rashid Salam, executive member, AFMI, compared Mr. Naidu's development of Hyderabad to the public works of the Nizam, while Maulana Abdul Kareem Parekh, quoting from the Vedas said that Naidu was a proper follower of "Rajdharma'' as he protected his subjects and gave justice to all. Therefore, Maulana Parekh said that Mr. Naidu would be better as the Prime Minister of the country, rather than as the Chief Minister of one State.
