Karnataka-Bangalore
By Our Staff Reporter
Addressing a gathering at a function organised by the Vishwa Manava Vedike to commemorate the poet's birthday here, Mr. Krishna lauded Kuvempu's contribution to Kannada literature, and his endeavour to convey the message of equality and harmony through his writings. His works had a tremendous influence on Kannada literature. He also aided the unification of Karnataka and gave a boost to the freedom struggle through his writings, he said. Siddalinga Swamiji of Tontadarya Math said people disfavoured the fanaticism in the name of Hindutva, which bred violence and intolerance towards other religions. "We should be inspired by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and Prophet Mohammed," he said. In this context, Kuvempu's beliefs and the values he stood for, which were reflected in his writings, were significant as he promoted the concept of harmony, and opposed casteism, religious fundamentalism, and superstition, he added. Bala Gangadharnatha Swamy of Adichunchanagiri Math, the Bangalore Mayor, C.M.Nagaraj, Y.K.Ramaiah, President, Vishwa Manava Vedike, and Justice H.N.Narayan of the Karnataka High Court were present.
