CVC sore with States' stand on probe

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore Dec. 29. The Central Vigilance Commissioner, P.Shankar, has noted that some of the States had kept their all-India service officers out of the purview of the commission by denying permission to the CBI to investigate complaints of corruption against them (officers).

In a chat with presspersons, Mr. Shankar said that it was for the Lokayukta to go into the question of appointment of an IAS officer who had been proceeded against by his organisation in the past, as the State's next Chief Secretary.

Without blanket permission, the CBI had to obtain permission for investigation from the State in every complaint of corruption against the officials.

Karnataka was not the only State where such appointments had been made, he said.
