South Africa names World Cup squad

DURBAN DEC. 29. Shaun Pollock was named captain of South Africa's World Cup squad on Sunday, the same day he led his country to the brink of world championship status in Test cricket with an emphatic 10-wicket victory over Pakistan.

Monde Zondeki got the nod ahead of the experienced Steve Elworthy, who, at 37, will likely never get another chance to play in a World Cup.

The team: Shaun Pollock (captain), Mark Boucher (vice-captain), Nicky Boje, Boeta Dippenaar, Allan Donald, Herschelle Gibbs, Andrew Hall, Jacques Kallis, Gary Kirsten, Lance Klusener, Charl Langeveldt, Makhaya Ntini, Robin Peterson, Jonty Rhodes and Monde Zondeki.
