More Tambaram-Beach BG EMU services from Jan.

CHENNAI Dec. 29. The number of BG EMU services on the Tambaram - Beach section will be increased substantially from the New Year following the completion of the gauge conversion work from Egmore to Park.

As against the present 86 BG services on the section, the administration will operate 138 services, including 28 shuttle services from Egmore to Park. The shuttle services will have link with the MG EMU services now running between Tambaram and Egmore. While 54 BG services will be operated from Tambaram to Beach, 56 services will run between Tambaram and Park.

To meet the peak hour traffic demand, two additional BG services will be operated in the morning and three in the evening. For the convenience of commuters in Pallavaram and St.Thomas Mount, a turnback service will be provided from Pallavaram. The Kancheepuram - Beach passenger will halt at St.Thomas Mount.

The Minister of State for Railways, A. K. Moorthy, who reviewed the gauge conversion work, told newsmen here today that the stretch from Park to Beach would be completed by January - end and more EMU services introduced.
