Qureshi hits out at Hurriyat

New Delhi Dec. 29. Asking militants to shun violence and try to restore the pride of Jammu and Kashmir, the founder-member of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Hashim Qureshi, today criticised the All-Party Hurriyat Conference leaders, accusing them of "enjoying at the cost of Kashmiris".

Mr. Qureshi, who hijacked an Indian Airlines plane to Pakistan in 1971, said, "The amalgam leaders have no conscience to observe what has happened to Kashmir... they are doing diagonally opposite of what they are supposed to do. They formed the amalgam to represent the Kashmiris but ended up being stooges of Pakistan."

Mr. Qureshi, against whom charges were recently framed by a court, said that the Hurriyat Conference leaders were enjoying luxuries at the cost of the suffering Kashmiris.

Asking the people to introspect on the role of the Hurriyat, he said, "Hundreds of people are languishing in jails. Violence has left so many orphans and widows. What has the amalgam done for them?"
