Letters to the Editor
Sir, This is with reference to the article "Tamil Nadu and Indian Foreign Policy" (Dec. 25) by V. Suryanarayan. The differentiation between South and South-East Asia is, indeed, illogical. The life-view and general thinking process of the people in South-East Asia is strikingly similar to ours. The historical, cultural and maritime trade relations between India and these countries cannot be ignored. It is time that the political leadership in our country gave serious thought and acted upon the author's suggestion for a "Bay of Bengal Community". It would be of immense benefit to India as well as the region as a whole. Chennai, could, of course, be the springboard for its launch.
H. Balakrishnan,
