Letters to the Editor
Sir, This is with reference to the article "Buddhism, Bhakti and VHP" by Gail Omvedt (Dec. 23,24). A discussion of the bhakti movement cannot be concluded without mentioning Tulsidas, Chaitanya and Surdas. Tulsidas used his writings for religious and social upliftment of the people. He was not just a devotee but was also a social reformer. These saints were above the bonds of caste and religion. Reactionary writing and abusing Hinduism will only strengthen the walls of religion and caste and help organisations such as the VHP and the Bajrang Dal.
