Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Editorial "The apprehensions remain" (Dec. 26) clearly brings out the BJP's tactics in trying to pose itself as a responsible party committed to the demands of the Constitution enjoined on the ruling establishment. The Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, and the BJP president, Venkaiah Naidu, speak of the "real message" of the "Gujarat experiment" and the next day change their tune and talk about the aspirations of all communities. It is clear that they are in a dilemma with an obligation to appease the Sangh Parivar, on the one side, and to address the larger sentiments of the nation, on the other. Their attempt at riding double horses will be more pronounced in the days to come as the Assembly elections in a few States are slated for next year.
