Seminar on need for `eWaste Management Policy'

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE JAN. 7. The UNIDO-ICAMT, Project Agasthya, and The Environment and Health Foundation, India, will organise a seminar on "Environmental concerns due to the proliferation of electronic wastes, and the need for an efficient and sustainable eWaste Management Policy" on January 11.

The objective of the seminar is to create awareness among the people, the industry, and the policymakers on the issue. It is directed at educational and research institutions, government departments and agencies, stakeholders in water resources, ecology and environment, and consumers. Electronic waste is the most obvious environmental problem today, but the infrastructure to manage it is inadequate. The organisers say recycle and reuse of post-consumer electronics is technically problematic. The negative environmental effects of the growing consumption of electronic hardware are most visible in the end-of-life stages.

Those interested in participating in the seminar may contact the UNIDO-ICAMT Campus, Tumkur Road, or Ph: 3478109/8110 (e-mail: contact@icamt.org).
