Syndicate approval for IIMK report

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Jan. 7. The Syndicate of the University of Kerala has decided to accept the report suggesting measures to improve the overall functioning of the university.

The work-study report presented by the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, (IIMK) was discussed at the meeting of the Syndicate held here today and approved subsequently.

Some of the recommendations relating to the functioning of the Administrative, Academic, Finance and Planning Departments are to be implemented soon in the university. They include reorganising of the different sections, setting right the imbalances in the workload of employees, computerising the Administrative and Academic Departments, simplifying the salary disbursement procedures and effecting spot payment for those setting the question papers of the university examinations.

The activities of the Human Resources Development Centre are to be streamlined. A committee headed by the Pro Vice-Chancellor will examine matters concerning the posting of staff in various departments on a rotation basis.

The report, based on the study conducted by a team led by V. Mukunda Das of the IIM, Kozhikode, had been studied in detail by a sub-committee of the Syndicate, headed by the PVC.

The Syndicate also decided to reinstate G. Sidharthan as the Registrar of the university.

It was decided to award the Ph.D. degree to Vidya Balakrishnan (Economics), Sudarshanan P.K. and Manilal M.K. (Commerce) and George Justin (English).

Sub-committees are to be constituted to examine whether the admissions to the unaided B.Ed. colleges under the university were conducted on the basis of merit of the applicants.

One last chance is to be given for pre-degree students to clear the examinations in March 2003.
