Humiliation cause of girls' suicide?

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUPATI Jan. 8. The suicide by two students of Krishna Devaraya junior college in Madanapalle -- Santhakumari and Malleeswari -- allegedly due to the humiliating treatment meted out by the college staff, has created ripples in the students' and women's circles.

It may be recalled that the two had committed suicide a couple of days back, allegedly due to the frequent censuring by the headmaster Basireddy and the clerk Srinivasulu Reddy. Even the suicide note recovered by the police reportedly stated that the two had resorted to the extreme step due to the ill-treatment in the public every now and then by the headmaster and the clerk of the college, ever since they were caught copying in an exam, some time back.

The All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA), in a release, has demanded arrest of the two for driving innocent girls to suicide. R. Rajeswari of AIDWA said it was yet another instance of harassment in private colleges.
