Briefing presspersons about the prospects at the GIM, Mr. Hassan today said project profiles of over 60 food agro-based units had already been got up for the GIM. The total outlay required for these projects would come to Rs. 250 crores. There are strong candidates interested in many of these projects, which means that the GIM might lay the foundation for the development of agro-processing industry in the State. This is one of the areas that has plenty of scope in the State, according to the Government's assessment. Mr. Hassan said rubber-based industries requiring a total outlay of Rs. 595 crores and coconut-based industries needing an outlay of Rs. 115 crores were also being presented before the investors attending the GIM. Some of the other projects being showcased include a hyper market network for consumer items (Rs. 100 crores), food processing parks at Adoor and Palai (Rs. 60 crores), a herbal park in Wayanad (Rs. 30 crores), a fruits and vegetables processing unit in Kochi (Rs. 12 crores), three meat processing units (Rs. 90 crores), a unit for processing vegetable oils (Rs. 2.30 crores), a spices processing unit (Rs. 21 crores) and a unit for making banana chips (Rs. 1 crore).
