Sasanur rejects MLA's charge

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore Jan. 8. The Minister for Agricultural Marketing, B.S.Patil Sasanur, has deplored the allegation against him of siding with the Veerashaiva Sahakara Sangha at a time when he was engaged in finding a solution with regard to the sangha's building at the Yeshwantpur market yard, here.

Speaking to presspersons today, the minister said that the BJP MLA from Rajajinagar, S.Suresh Kumar, had alleged that he was favouring the sangha to let out some shops in its building although they had been built in violation of the building laws. The letting out of those shops would impede the entry of vehicles into the market yard, Mr. Kumar had said.

The minister said that he had inspected the sangha building along with Mr. Kumar, office-bearers of the sangha, and others on January 2.

He held a meeting with Mr. Kumar and others the next day. Representatives of traders had complained to him that if the shops in the sangha building opening towards the west were used for trading, it would block the entry of vehicles into the market yard.

He claimed that the solution he had decided upon was to instruct the sangha to build a wall to the west and use the open space in front of the building (towards south) for loading and unloading operations.

It was unfortunate that Mr. Kumar had gone to the press accusing him of siding with the Veerashaiva Sangha.

The minister said that he had no connection with the sangha and his only interest was to help farmers.

Mr. Sasanur announced that the wholesale fruit and vegetable market built at Singena Agrahara on Hosur Road would be opened later this month by the Chief Minister, S.M.Krishna. Part of the City Market here would be shifted to the new market, he said.
