When the matter came up for hearing today, Mr. Justice Dinakaran handed over the letter to counsel for Dr. Ramadoss and asked him to read it out in the open court. The mail contained unparliamentary words and abusive language. It also threatened the judge with dire consequences if he continued to criticise PMK leaders in connection with the P.T. Lee Chengalvaraya Naicker Trust matter. Conceding that the letter could have been written by anyone with an ulterior political motive, Mr. Justice Jagadeesan said, "We do not know who is behind this. But see how the judges are being threatened and coerced." When counsel said the PMK leader could not be present for unavoidable circumstances, the judge wondered if it was deliberate. "He (Dr. Ramadoss) knows very well that his case is coming up today. His appearance has not been dispensed with." The Bench then adjourned the case to February 24 and said the PMK founder should be present that day. Ko.Si.Mani plea rejected In another case, Justice V. Kanagaraj has directed the Mayiladuturai judicial magistrate to complete trial of a case against the former DMK Minister, Ko.Si. Mani, and the MDMK leader, Vaiko, registered in 1984. It pertains to an assault on a local AIADMK functionary and damage caused to public property, allegedly at the instance of the two leaders, during a byelection in the Mayiladuturai constituency. Mr. Mani filed a quash petition stating there was undue delay on the part of the prosecution. Rejecting his plea, Mr. Justice Kanagaraj asked the magistrate to complete the trial within three months.
