While presenting his Budget speech discussing the Budget estimates for the year 2003-2004 here on Tuesday, the Committee's head, Ajit Chaudhary, said the three existing sanitary landfill sites at Okhla, Ghazipur and Bhalaswa were nearing completion. "The issue of developing a landfill site in 152 acres of land in Narela-Bawana road is pending in court as residents' objections and the issue of developing another site at Bhati Mines is still being discussed, the only site available is at Jaitpur-Tajpur where work will soon start.''According to Mr. Chaudhary, the CSE Department lifts around 6,500 to 7,000 metric tonnes of garbage daily and dispose it of at the three landfill sites. "The proposed engineered landfill site will have all provisions for safe disposal of garbage which includes a boundary wall around the site, proper coverage of garbage and collection of gases coming out of it.'' Stating that the 500 metric tonnes compost plant at Bhalaswa was not working as per its capacity and the compost manufactured was also not being sold, Mr. Chaudhary said the Corporation was planning to construct two more such processing plants. The Committee has also proposed to pay extra attention towards cleanliness and beautification of its various market places in the Capital. "We will be roping in corporates and different companies who will be advertising in special dustbins to be installed in different markets. They will be giving revenue to the Corporation besides sharing the responsibility of garbage disposal,'' informed Mr. Chaudhary, adding that the Committee had also approved addition of 300 new trucks for garbage transportation to the landfill sites. Meanwhile, the head of the MCD's Medical Relief and Public Health Committee, Jitender Kocchar, in his Budget speech, said the Corporation would give special impetus to promote Indian system of medicine. "There is a proposal to start seven Ayurvedic, six homoeopathic and three Unani dispensaries in different parts of the Capital.'' A polyclinic would be opened at Rohini besides latest medical equipment would be purchased to upgrade different Corporation-run hospitals, Mr. Kocchar said, adding that there was also proposal to install incinerators and auto-clave garbage disposal systems at different hospitals.
