Mulayam seeks CBI probe against Mayawati

By Our Special Correspondent

LUCKNOW JAN. 8. The Samajwadi Party leader, Mulayam Singh Yadav, today alleged that the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mayawati, planned to celebrate her upcoming birthday on January 15 on a "unique scale" with administrative officials being asked to collect money. He further alleged that the Chief Minister had allowed sugar mills to fleece sugarcane growers for monetary considerations. Mr. Yadav urged the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, to order a CBI inquiry into the allegations.

" I shall give all the evidence to prove the charges, when required, and if I am unable to substantiate what I say, I shall resign my membership of the Lok Sabha."

Mr.Yadav said he had called on the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, seeking her support for his efforts to remove the BSP-BJP Government in Uttar Pradesh.
