Letters to the Editor
Sir, The self-proclaimed `jehadi' groups have done immense harm to the cause of Islam. The VHP and the Bajrang Dal are imitating them and defaming Hinduism. `Cultural nationalism', the new slogan coined by Hindu fundamentalists is being pitted against Indian nationalism or Indianness. Yet precisely undefined, cultural nationalism is a seemingly innocent but inherently dangerous divisive weapon to coerce Hindus, Muslims and other communities to subscribe to the ideology of Hindutva as perceived by the Sangh Parivar.
S.P. Gupta,
Sir, Democracy allows many opinions to be debated. But it should not affect the basic rights of the people. Why is there a hue and cry about Hindutva. Let every one practise one's own religion. No religion preaches hatred towards other groups. There is no scientific evidence to prove that one sect is superior to the other.
T. Senthil Kumar,
