dated 10, January, 1953: Churchill — Eisenhower Talks:

No official word had come on the discussions which Mr. Winston Churchill was having with Mr. Eisenhower in New York. But it was believed that the British Premier had sought assurances from the U.S. President-elect for the Korean war to be kept confined to Korea, top priority support for European defence, lowering of American trade barriers to enable Britain to earn more dollars, exchange of atomic information between Britain and the U.S. for mutual benefit, and close consultations with London before any major decision on global affairs was taken by Washington. Mr. Churchill seemed satisfied that the new administration under President Eisenhower would give due weight to his views, as the British Premier spoke not for Britain alone, but also for the Commonwealth and for the Western European Community.
