Rs. 1 cr. to be spent on kitchens in 400 schools

KURNOOL Jan. 9. The Municipal Minister, B.V. Mohan Reddy, on Thursday said that kitchens would be constructed in 400 schools at a cost of Rs. 1 crore in the district.

Addressing a gram sabha at Mugathipet in Yemmiganur town, Mr. Reddy said an amount of Rs. 25,000 would be spent on each kitchen. He said the mid-day meal scheme was introduced for a noble cause.

Mr. Mohan Reddy said under the `Food-for-work' programme, 16,500 tonnes of rice was allotted for the district. The works would begin soon. He said efforts were on to include Yemmiganur town in the DFID-sponsored programme at a cost of Rs. 745 crores. Next year, construction of a stadium and roads in a big way would be taken up in Yemmiganur town. The Railways had agreed to take up survey of railway line connecting Yemmiganur town. The Joint Collector, Ramsankar Naik, the Municipal Vice-chairman, Machani Sivanna, and others were present.

At Velugodu in Atmakur constituency, the Minister for Higher Education, N. Md. Farooq, said 368 shadikhanas costing Rs. 32 crores were under construction across the State.
