Deep Sen maintains lead

HYDERABAD JAN. 9. Deep Sen Gupta in the boys' section and Mary Ann Gomes along with Kruthika Nadig in the girls' section led the points tally at the end of the penultimate round of the Fantoosh sub-junior National super league chess championship at Sujatha Degree College for women here today.

In the boys section the race for the title is between Deep Sen Gupta who has ten points and Abhijeet Gupta who has nine. The two of them along with Rohit and Aksyaraj Kore have qualified for the Youth Olympiad team.

In the girls championship the tussle for the top spot is between Mary Ann Gomes and Kruthika Nadig with 8.5 points each while Saheli Nath with 8 points also has a chance. All three have qualified for the Youth Olympiad.

Boys: Round 11: Abhijeet Gupta (8.5) bt Nikhilesh Kumar (5); D. Krishna (4.5) lost to G. Rohit (7.5); Sai Krishna (2.5) lost to Praveen Prasad (7); Deep Sen Gupta (9) bt Joydeep Dutta (3); Sai Srinivas (6.5) drew with Akshayraj Kore (7); Y. Sandeep (2.5) lost to Arun Prasad (5); Shah Vishal (3.5) bt Sunil Rangarajan (5.5).

Round 12: Nikhilesh Kumar (5.5) drew with Sunil Rangarajan (6); Arun Prasad (6) bt Shah Vishal (3.5); Akshayraj Kore (7.5) drew with Y. Sandeep (3); Joydeep Dutta (4) bt Sai Srinivas (6.5); Praveen Prasad (7) lost to Deep Sen Gupta (10); G. Rohit (8.5) bt Sai Krishna (2.5); Abhijeet Gupta (9.5) bt D. Krishna (4.5).

Girls: Round 11: Saheli Nath (7.5) drew with Anoori Shah (5); Kruthika Nadig (8) bt Ashwathi Bala (3.5); Supriya Maji (4.5) lost to Sowmya Swaminathan (6); May Ann Gomes (7.5) lost to N. Vinuthna (6); K.L. Pranitha (3.5) bt Kiranmonisha Mohan (5.5); Ishwarya Shobhana (5.5) drew with Mahima Rajamohan (5.5); Anjanya Soujanya (3.5) drew with Rajadarshini (5.5).

Round 12: Anoori Shah (5.5) drew with Rajadarshini (6); Mahima Rajamohan (6.5) bt Anjana Soujanya (3.5); Kirannmonisha Mohan (6.5) bt Ishwarya Shobhana (5.5); N. Vinuthna (7) bt K.L.
