The BJP chief, Venkaiah Naidu, said today that the party was seriously considering a proposal that coordinators should be nominated instead of allowing the various overseas branches to elect or nominate their office-bearers. "A decision will be taken very soon.'' The problem arose after squabbles and serious differences surfaced in several branches in the United States. The RSS leader, Madan Das Devi, was, in fact, reported to have suggested disbanding these outfits. Mr. Naidu made it clear that the Overseas Friends of the BJP were simply supporting organisations and not part of the party machine. The party used these outfits as a platform abroad for airing its views on issues of international and national interest, but so far the BJP had no direct control. If nominations are made by the party headquarters here for key posts in these associations the BJP hopes to get control over their activities.
