Prof. Subba Rao warned that violence was an expression of a sick mind and said that apart from genetic factors, social indifference, injustice, jealousy and other factors contributed to violent tendencies in individuals. He called on the assembled delegates to pay greater attention to this factor. He also touched on the importance of building emotional stability among children, and called for a shift from pursuing IQ (intelligence quotient) to developing Emotional Quotient in children. K. Narasimha Reddy, State president, Indian Psychiatric Society, welcomed the over 2,500 psychiatrists who gathered for this annual meet which is being held in Hyderabad after a gap of 35 years. The conference concludes on Jan. 12.
