Survey planned on safe drinking water supply

BANGALORE Jan. 9. The Minister for Urban Development, D.K.Shivakumar, has said that a comprehensive survey will be conducted to provide safe drinking water supply in urban areas of the State.

Speaking at a seminar on `Adoption of modern standards, technology, and systems for the rehabilitation and maintenance of water supply and sewerage systems' here today, Mr. Shivakumar said that the survey would identify the type of water supply and sewerage system required for various places. Mr. Shivakumar called for more private participation in the above areas.

The minister called for adopting modern standards and technology in these areas and stressed on proper attention to maintenance of sewerage system.

B. Srinivasa Reddy, Managing Director, Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWS&DB), listed the board's efforts in providing safe and quality drinking water in urban centres of the State.

The Bangalore Mayor, C.M.Nagaraj, the KUWS&DB Chairman, C.M.Lingappa, and Vijay Kataria, Managing Director, Kaveri Infrastructure Private Ltd., New Delhi, were present.
