Tholkappia Poonga released

Chennai Jan.11. The DMK president, M. Karunanidhi's literary work, Tholkappia Poonga, an exposition on the Tamil classic, was released at a function here today in the presence of leaders of various political parties.

The Tamil scholar, Tamizh Annal, handed over the book to the Union Minister, T. R. Baalu, the first copy of the book Mr. Karunanidhi penned in Goa a couple of months ago.

The Congress functionaries, Kumari Ananthan, Tindivanam Ramamurthy and Peter Alphonse, the Congress Jananayaga Peravai leader, P. Chidambaram, the Union Minister and MDMK leader, M. Kannappan, the MDMK presidium chairman,

L. Ganesan, and Kundragadi Ponambala Adigalar were among those who participated and lauded the DMK leader's literary contributions.

Significantly, none from the State BJP and the PMK turned up.

The President, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam; the Prime Minister, A. B.Vajpayee; the Governor, P. S. Ramamohan Rao; the BJP president, M. Venkaiah Naidu; the AICC secretary, G. K. Vasan; the CPI State secretary, R. Nallakannu; the CPI (M) State secretary, N. Varadarajan; and the Dravidar Kazhagam general secretary, K.Veeramani, were among those who sent congratulatory messages to Mr.Karunanidhi.
