Letters to the Editor
Sir, __ This has reference to the critical review of Bishan Tandon's PMO Diary (Magazine, Jan. 5). It is surprising that now everyone criticises Indira Gandhi, though during her two-part rule very few had the courage to talk or write against her. She was a brave religious woman. Within an hour of the announcement of Nehru's death, she sent for me to recite the Gita when the body was kept for public darshan. When I met her in 1984, I told her that October November were full of risk to her life. She told me that so much `daan' and `puja' were taking place, and if even then death had to arrive, let it. "I shall work to my last moment," she said.
