A noteworthy feature of the recovery is that it has been led by exports to the U.S. About 300 million pieces worth Rs. 7,167 crores were exported to that country during the period. This represents a growth of 29.66 per cent in terms of quantity and 11.2 per cent in terms of value. The European Union is another market that has helped in the recovery. A total of 456 million pieces worth Rs. 6,730 crores were exported to the region. This translates to a growth of 11 per cent in value, though a decline of three per cent in terms of quantity. There is, however, a negative side to the performance. There has been a marked decline in exports to Canada, which is another major market for Indian textiles. Exports to the country could only reach 47 million pieces valued at Rs. 672 crores, marking a decline of 16.5 per cent in terms of value and 8.4 per cent in quantity.
