Release of detenus to be resumed

By Our Staff Reporter

Jammu Jan. 12. The process of releasing detenus in Jammu and Kashmir, which was suspended following a controversy, will be resumed again. The Joint Screening Committee set up three weeks ago after an understanding reached between the State and the Central Governments on the issue, will meet on January 17.

Sources said that the State Director-General of Police, A.K. Suri would present a list of detenus to the panel for its approval.

The Committee was constituted on December 20 by the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Government.

In the first phase, most of the high profile prisoners were released by the State Government as part of its policy decision not to keep a person under detention after he had been acquitted or granted bail by court.

The PDP vice-president, Mehbooba Mufti, has announced that the process of releasing innocent youths would be resumed in 11 days.
