"On identification of the source of pollution, water supply will be resumed after flushing the water main. Till then, supply will be made to these streets through tankers," an official said in a release, responding to a news item in these columns today. Metrowater received a complaint on January 11 from Arangannal Street. On inspection, out of 136 streets at Taramani, five Arangannal Street, MGR Street, Thiru.Vi.Ka. Street, Buddar Street and Anna Street had cases of polluted water supply for about half-an-hour when the supply commenced. Once the pressure increased, there was no pollution for about one-and-a-half hours which was till 10.30 a.m. "In other streets, water was found to be good and the residual chlorine level about 2 ppm at 11.30 am," the release said. On the sewer system, Metrowater said it was "functioning well" and there was no sewage stagnation or overflow. However, action had been taken to rectify manholes where the bottom concrete was damaged, though this was not the cause for the pollution. Adverting to the replacement of PVC main on Gandhi Street, Peeliammaan Koil Street and Thiruvalluvar Street, it said the work would be taken up under the Leak Detection and Rectification scheme. "However, there was no leak or pollution in this main."
